What are Fake FBI emails, how to identify them
There are warnings from FBI regarding malicious emails coming into your inbox, looking as if it has come from the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI circular says that such emails are received with an attachment, and the contents lure you to open the attachment, known to contain a computer virus. The email received is quite threatening, warning you of your visits to illegal websites which have been monitored by the Internet Fraud Complaint Center of the agency. The email then directs you to open the attached file to answer a few questions regarding the matter. You should be warned that such attachments contain virus which would definitely ruin all your files in your hard disk.
The FBI statement states that the agency will never send unsolicited emails to recipients, especially mentioning of accessing illegal websites. The agency further states that they would never attach files with any of their emails, even if they send one. If you have received such emails, the FBI wants you to report them to the Internet Crime Complaint Center by visiting http://www.ic3.gov.
If you receive such email with an attachment, disguised as one from FBI, you should immediately report the matter to the concerned department of FBI, and avoid opening the attachment. You should always delete such emails from your system, and if you can, mark such receipts to the junk folder of your email client.
