Sleeplessness is quite common and is found among a majority of the population. Some of the cases where the problem becomes a disorder but for other it may be temporary. On an average an adult needs about 8 hrs of sleep but can make do with even 6 hours. anything less than that on a regular basis can affect the health adversely and lead to other conditions like Blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Continuous stretch of sleep can diminish with age but there are non medical methods to counter this state. Some of the best tips for a good night’s rest are;
1. No naps during the day
2. Early exercising.
3. Cutting down on caffeine induced drinks and sodas, well before bedtime.
4. Keeping to a bedtime routine
5. No alcohol before bedtime
6. Light yoga or relaxing exercise
7. Sleep inducing natural foods, like milk, cheese, tofu etc
Some of these may help but if there no change after a few weeks then consulting a doctor to diagnose if you have a sleep disorder would be good next step.
