What is AutoVue, Lane Departure Warning System

As the motorist was driving through a residential area, he suddenly drops his cell phone on the floor of the car. He takes his eyes from the road to pick it up, and the car hits a jogger who was jogging on the shoulder of the road.

Incidents like this, and many other happen, and the AutoVue, Lane Departure system warns you if the car ever strays off the lane. A small camera, which is mounted at the back of the rear view mirror, watches the road continuously as you drivee your car. If the car happens to stray off the markings of the lane that you are traveling in, it will sound an alarm. This is very effective in preventing the driver to fall asleep while driving, with the car going off the road. This alarm system also serves as a warning system for inattentive drivers.

Though the AutoVue, Lane Departure Warning System technology seems to be simple enough, the software that goes in it is quite sophisticated. The system has been programmed to detect different types of lane markings in different colors, at different lighting and weather conditions. While designing the system engineers found that the “rumbling strip” is quite an effective warning for drivers, when they are either inattentive or fall off to sleep while driving.
